Traffic Stop and Go Law
Traffic Stop-and-Go Laws
These laws relate to drivers' obligations at stop signs, traffic lights, and crosswalks.
At Stop Signs:
Drivers must come to a complete stop at the designated line before proceeding.
After stopping, drivers yield the right-of-way to other vehicles or pedestrians in accordance with state laws.
At Traffic Lights:
A green light allows drivers to proceed.
A yellow light warns that the light will soon turn red; drivers must stop unless it’s unsafe to do so.
A red light requires a full stop. In most states, drivers may turn right on red after stopping unless otherwise posted.
Stop-and-Go Traffic:
Refers to situations of heavy congestion where vehicles alternate between brief movements and complete stops, often managed by traffic laws to prevent gridlocks.
Police Stops ("Stop and Go" Related to Investigations)
This can refer to laws governing police stops of vehicles or individuals:
Officers may make a temporary stop if they have reasonable suspicion that a person is involved in criminal activity.
After stopping, if no further evidence is found to escalate the situation, the individual is allowed to "go."
